A Return to Algae

The numbers coming from algae research are astonishing!

“Certain species of algae can contain as much as 50% extractable oil which can be refined to make biodiesel. As a conservative estimate, algae can produce 33000 gallons of oil per acre per year, while corn can only produce a mere 30. Only 5.4 million acres, or only 7 percent of the state of new Mexico is needed to fuel transportation in America.”

One high school classes’ biodiesel project – their
aim is to get their own district’s buses fueled with their results.

“It gets the kids to think and explore alternatives.”
